A historical survey of Aristotle's poetics as mutated by Islamic scholars

Member of Iranian Institute of Philosophy made a survey of thematic transformation of Aristotle's notion of poetics by Islamic scholars in a book.

Dr Mohammad Yousef Sani, author, said: "Some Islamic scholars have altered the content of Aristotle's Poetics when first translating it from Greek to Persian and this has caused a lasting thematic transformation.

He continued: "While Aristotle's poetics makes an important part of our ancient logic, there are few researches made in this regard from Avicenna's time onward."

Yousef Sani stated that these transformations attracted him as the alteration of Aristotelian logic by Islamic scholars does actually reveal a big deal about their own conception of the subject.

He finds the book useful for those seeking the relationship between poetry and logic and philosophy.

According to him, contemporary Muslim logicians only care for formal logic and show less interest in material logic, and at their best they may seek it in Argument for Ignorance.

"Aristotle's Poetics According to Islamic Scholars" will be published by Minoye Kherad.
