An exhibition of manuscripts by Avicenna including copies of his 'Canon of Medicine' is being run at Malek Museum in Tehran.
According
to the public relations office of the museum, the exhibit began on Saturday and
will run through September 17. Besides manuscripts, exquisite copies of
extended studies about the book are put on display as well.
Malek
National Library and Museum is one of the biggest manuscript centers in the
Islamic Republic of Iran besides some five other great resources.
There
is a collection of over 140 invaluable manuscript titles being kept at the
library from the greatest Iranian thinkers and scholars in various fields
including medicine, astronomy, mathematics, physics, calculus, politics and
other fields of study.
Among
the manuscripts, the library holds 14 manuscript copies of Avicenna’s 'Canon of
Medicine' in 28 volumes.
The
exhibit is being held to mark the 1000th anniversary of Avicenna’s penning of
the book. 16 copies of the book as well as elaborations on it are being
displayed at the exhibition.
